No breather for Blizzard: At the latest since the cult developer studio was sued for sexual harassment and discrimination, the mood is thoroughly in the basement. Now Blizzard also canceled the next Blizzcon, which was originally again to take place as an online event in February 2022. In a message on Blizzard s website, the developer explains the reasons.
So the effort for the studio is currently simply too big to put an online show like the blizzcon on the legs. According to Blizzard, the necessary energy should prefer to flow into the teams and the development of the games instead.
The BlizzCon will change
Blizzard, the concept of BlizzCon is in principle in question and still reflects on a realignment. After all, the first Blizzcon is 16 years ago and many have changed since then. In particular, the way they are today communities and players come together - which was originally one of the main thoughts behind the Blizzcon. The ongoing action is not addressed in Blizzard s message - little surprising - not addressed. Instead, it rather stresses that you want to make a future blizzcon as safe, inviting and inclusive as possible.
New information without an event
Blizzard, however, promises to provide new announcements and fresh information about the new games, despite the cancellation, which are currently under development. So maybe we can even count on one or the other revelation. Blizzard is currently working officially on OverVATCH 2, Diablo Immortal and Diablo 4, and World of Warcraft and Hearthstone are steadily supplied with new content. Starcraft fans, on the other hand, are waiting for a new sign of life and the disappointing Warcraft 3: Reforgan recalled since his announcement rather to a shear pile. Diablo 2: RESURRECTED is started with positive reviews, but has been struggling for own weeks with unstable servers.
